Haut Glacier d'Arolla snow cover evolution
This animation shows changes in the snow cover over the Haut glacier d'Arolla at approximately 5 days interval. The values are derived bygeoreferencing some of the daily photographs taken by an automatic camera at the Crête du Plan (the ridge to the north of the northern limit of the glacier). The glacier appears to "inflate" after snowfall events, as the general reflectance increases. The changes in color and intensity are due to different illumination (e.g. clouds) and exposure conditions, as the camera is set to automatic (+1 f.stop) and there are no corrections in this preliminary result. The anomalous contours are due to artifacts in the original DEM. These are outside the main glacier area and therefore do not affect the survey. |
